Your Guide to Flirty Texting These days so many of us text a lot more than we talk on our cell phones and flirty texting can be a lot of fun if you do it correctly. The challenge is it can also ruin your chances of hooking up with that girl or guy if done incorrectly. This site is your guide to properly flirt via text and is based on personal experience (I'm a text junkie) as well as input from countless guys and girls.

First off, here are some general tips for guys and girls looking to flirt text.

1. Keep your texts fairly short and to the point. Little one and two liners are typically more entertaining to read than long drawn out paragraphs. Also many phones will break a lengthy text message up into several individual texts which can be annoying to the recipient. It's fun to hear that chime notifying you of a text message but several chimes in a row from the same sender can be taken as annoying or even worse - that you are a crazy, pushy text stalker. You don't want that!

2. Proofread your work. We do get away with poor grammer when texting but before you send that flirty text look it over. Text messages are not always easy to tell if a person is serious, joking, mad or what.. Leave out a key word or mystype a critical word and your text may end up doing more harm than good.

3. Go easy on the shorthand. Don't write out every single long word as if you were sending a cover letter, but unless you are still in junior high do try to keep the abreviations to a minimum. Keep it short but do try to come across as somewhat intelligent.

4. Get to know your recipients texting habits and style. Some of us live by texting... Our phone is always on and generally we always reply quickly. Others turn their phones off at night, at work, etc. In addition some text using more formal grammer while others use shorthand for nearly everything. As you text more and more with someone pay attention to these habits and try to mimick them. This will help put you on their "texting level" which can help make that connection. Knowing their text habits will help you text them at the right times, and not text at the wrong times. That will help your texts be better recieved.

5. Use smiley faces correctly. Don't put a smiley :) or a wink ;) or sad face, etc. after every line. And lord please don't put LOL after every line as it makes you sound like you are laughing at your own jokes. That being said some of the best flirts are when you say something that is borderline funny / offensive / off color. When you are pushing the envelope DO use a smiley so they know you are joking.

6. Be funny and witty - not dramatic! Obviously when we are in a relationship its OK to send messages like, "you are so beautiful. I miss you so much, I love you", etc. but that's wooing, not flirting. Try to keep your messages fun and upbeat and not overly serious. Remember, it's flirting not proposing!

7. Push their buttons! Of course we all love to be put on a pedistal, loved and worshipped from time to time, but again that's not flirting. Don't insult someone, but don't be afraid to joke around a little, tease them a little. We all like a little bit of a challange in a relationship so look at your text session as a little relationship.

8. If you want a reply ask a question. Some people always respond to every text with at least a "haha" or "aint you so funny" type reply but many will only reply if the text calls for a reply. So if you want a reply try to end your text with some form of question.

9. Try to reply. Even if they don't follow suggestion #8 and end with a question, but you want the conversation to continue then go ahead and reply. Reply with a funny comment or question with hopes this will encourage them to reply as well.

10. Give them time to respond! So many of us think of texting as an immediate form of communication, but not all do. If you text and don't get a relply right away don't panic and don't stalk! Not getting a reply may simply mean that he or she is not interested but sometimes texts take a little while to go through and some do fail completely. Also remember they may be asleep, working, busy etc. It's a good idea to wait several hours, or even a day or so to try again if you don't hear back. Don't look desperate! Now that being said, if you insist on being text-impatient and really want that quick reply, wait a few minutes and send another text saying something like "that was a joke BTW", "you dumping me already? ;)" or "you ignoring me? ;)" Use the smileys on those so they know you are not really being serious. If you still don't get a reply then you should just be patient and wait a day or so. It can be annoying to get text after text after text from someone you don't care to text with at the time.

11. Easy on the drunk texting! Oh at some of the text messages people send when they are drunk! If you have a good sense of humor most are pretty funny but some can be embaressing or flat out damaging to your chances. Not only do we tend to say rediculous things after drinking a few too many, our typing goes out the window. We mispell, leave words out, get carried away, etc. Yes, drunk texting can be some of the most fun texting of all, but just remember to be extra careful as what you send will remain on the recipients phone until deleted.
